Cagey House - Calico Pastry Sunshine

GENRE: Rock, Art Rock, Abstract, Psychedelic

Label: Bypass
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 00:16:32

Bienvenue dans le shaker des illusions perdues! Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, and above all, be careful, for the paint is not yet dry! Scattered about, are the remnants of formica chips (hell! formicat, comment vais-je traduire ceci? Laminate?) Float now, through a powerfully atmospheric memory trip and experience complete levitation, as everywhere the particles are excessively resistant to your gracious appreciation. Relax and let yourself go completely. Nothing is spared, nothing is restricted. Dave Keifer aka Cagey House may very well be a genius, an iconoclast provoking a demonic revolution...
By now, you, of course can understand the near impossibility of portraying such a character (though this was exactly what ZhangJW asked me) - Cagey House does not respect conventions! Ready to dissect?
"Lower the bubble viewer" which brilliantly opens the release, will not leave you indifferent. If it does, you need to quickly consult a supersonic astrophysicist (I have addresses). Where are we? Too late! Surrounded! Submit to delicious words of love, a french whisper, bouncy riffs, flexible sarabande, and many more temptations to come, but...Scenery change.Speed dating in a flash of high velocity, you're transported to a delightful towering garden, flowering with whiskers. Symbiotically echoing and reflecting, you merge into a piercing laser beam's voluptuous flash with the softness and agility of Barbarella, while the laconic, fuzzy guitar riff brewed into the cut-up advances."You and the Beach Flea" will embrace you gently and will respond to you day and night, enveloping you in a strange, dreamy ballet...a very curious to and fro. If Cagey also shows a bit of a "romantic streak" let's not become entangled in endless, sterile discussions...the rhythm is there! The rhythm is there and does not wait just until the delicate point of rupture-- you will slalom in the mode of "ritournelle".
But where are we? So ready to exit and yet so completely lost.
Could Cagey House have surreptitiously abandoned us? Left us alone, destitute...poor harmonic orphans. But no! Now the ringmaster of this magnificent circus has given us his finest gift, "Ethel of the Rocks". So much like a perfume caressing our eternal desires and illusions...our eternally sweet illusions...lost.

GENRE: Electronic, Dark Ambient, Experimental, Minimal, Abstract

Label: Audiotalaia
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 00:24:02

Agustín Medina is a sound artist from Seville (Spain). Previously he was known as Medinadifez. Now a days he’s best known by its collaboration with ambient project Carrier To Noise Ratio based in Seville as well.
Medina has a minimalistic and abstract way to understand sound and composition. Medina focus its interest on creating complex sound structures in which we can hear a deep understanding of sound synthesis. As well Medina pays special attention on graving sound samples extracted from many sources as well as soundscapes.
His works have been part of different projects ranging from art to theatre working hand by hand with Cirque Du Soleil and with Atalaya TNT, 2008’s National Prize of Theatre.
Fascination For Seeing The Invisible is a short EP that runs for 24 minutes. Nevertheless, with this EP one can have a grasp of Medina’s concerns regarding, ambient music and dark atmospheres. It has some parts where extreme rhythms take over the sound range and those are juxtaposed by subtile melodies mottled by found sounds as if they where found footage for a audiovisual composition.
Finally Fascination For Seeing the Invisible is a concrete canvas of specific sound scenes, a counter part of his wider (until the date release) The Mask Of God, released at the brand new 48Laws Netlabel in which Medina is closely involved.

Aairria - Katharsis

Aairria

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, Drone, Abstract, Dark Ambient, ExperimentalIt worth a try!

Label: Earth Mantra
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 01:07:50

After a long time away, ambient prodigy Marcin Drabot returns to Earth Mantra with another collection of fathomless textural music, this time a trio of captivating pieces from his Aairria project called Katharsis. He is nothing less than one of the premier ambient artists active today, having created several pieces that we would call classics, essential listening for anyone who claims to love this genre. Needless to say, when Marcin gave us the opportunity to release another album by him, we literally jumped at the chance. Perhaps unlike the artist's excellent 2007 Earth Mantra release Nasti, the music of Katharsis covers a surprisingly broad swath of the ambient landscape, at times dark and mildly foreboding, other times mellow and contemplative, and still other times textural and abstract. Our amazement at Marcin's mastery of so many ambient forms never ceases, and we think Katharsis makes a particularly apt introduction to his music for those who are unfamiliar, as well as a singularly welcome addition to his catalogue for those who have long enjoyed his work. Remarkably well done. In fact, though we may never cherish anything Marcin produces as much as his magnum opus Inside My Room, Watching The Rain, a release that we consider to be the penultimate ambient composition ever made by anyone anywhere. we find the music of Katharsis to stand up very strongly against even this towering standard. Such a lovely collection of colors, mingled together so tastefully, that we have to say this is one of the best releases Marcin has ever produced. The compositions are especially well crafted, and complement each other aesthetically on multiple levels. This is the kind of music that suspends time, the sort of experience that speaks to a deeper consciousness well below the surface, something that you will want to hear again and again. So it is with great pleasure that we announce the second release by Aairria on Earth Mantra, the brilliant and evocative Katharsis. It has been much too long since the last time Marcin Drabot has shared his music with our audience, and we hope that it will not be nearly so long until we again have the privilege.

nisei23 - Soft Shapes

nisei23

GENRE: Electronic, Drone, Abstract, AmbientIt worth a try!

Label: Rec 72
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:43:18

nisei23’s album Soft Shapes is an overture of Drone-driven and melodic textures & rhythmic loops at the same time. It is product of over 3 years of work. nisei23’s music on this album is designed to be amorphous, shifting through time and space. Soft Shapes contains extensive cover arts and release credits. “It’s like a dream where everything is familiar but everything is different”, he confesses. The sounds on his album were carefully constructed from acoustic instruments and natural sounds which were manipulated and molded into drones, rhythmical loops and melodic patterns. The only exception was “Don’t Panic” which is entirely electronic. The melodies themselves are equally unconventional, sometimes with slow and subtle movements and other times making dramatic and unexpected twists.
