Zreen Toyz - The Timeless Topographer

GENRE: Electronic, Electro Acoustic, Ambient, Noise

Label: DNA Production
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 01:04:41

The perception of a space, urban or natural, is a sensory process which differs from a person to the other one.
Through his equipment, a topographer have mainly a geometrical and visual perception, while a walker, or a traveller, use his hearing and olfactive perceptions besides his vision, an approach at once instinctive and poetic.
But we could imagine a topographer dreamer and poet whose sensory processes harmonize to form an imaginary and timeless landscape…
This is the idea of this album which invites us in an imaginary and timeless world, outside our usual perceptions.

Spheruleus – Forgotten Outland

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, Electro Acoustic, Drone, Field Recordings

Label: Resting Bell
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 00:28:34

The sound-art of Spheruleus is produced by British artist Harry Towell with a previous discography including releases on the likes of Under The Spire, Earth Mantra and Test Tube as well as his own label Audio Gourmet. Intrigued by all things old and rustic, his music is often inspired by the rural Lincolnshire surroundings in which he lives and his first outing of 2011, here on Resting Bell, is intended to really captured this.
A short collection of deliberately loose and degraded instrument samples and field recordings, ‘Forgotten Outland’ is presented as if it were an old record found discarded inside a derelict farm building on disused land.
It comprises of blurred melodic passages and offers a faded insight into times gone by when the farmland thrived. Just like the physical state of the farm itself, the record sounds timeworn, warped and a shadow of its former self.
The instrument leads and various sounds climb over one another as if fighting for a voice. Nothing seems structured or in order, although amidst the deluge of disjointed melody, subtle detail can be focused upon to reveal parts of this purposefully concealed soundtrack.

Th.e n.d – Metaphors

Th.e n.d

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, Downtempo, Electro Acoustic, ExperimentalIt worth a try!

Label: Mix Galalxy
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:20:48

Norman Dauskardt is not an absolute newcomer on netaudio scene. He has already contributed Schizophrenic Birth EP – a symbiosis of electronic beats and acoustics instruments. And he continues with ‘Metaphors’ EP which is proudly presented to you by us Mixgalaxy Records. The listener is taken into the vast diversity of sounds and tunes, to explore the various possibilities of modern music composition. Starting with frosty electronic vibes in ‘The Bane of Tadziu’ Norman then increases rhythmic variation and adds new melodic elements to create a more trip-hop-like sound, and all together these ingredients compose a unique whole. That’s a very tasty piece of acoustic electronica! In the archive you can also find Norman’s photos and biography and hi-res version of cover artwork made by Norwegian painter Mathias Faane.

Miro - Miro

Miro

GENRE: Jazz, Free Jazz, Improvisation, Experimental, Electro Acoustic

Label: Clinical Archives
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:45:25

Miro is a joint project of Andrew Popovsky (curator of the St. Petersburg Experimental Sound Gallery) and Michael Kuleshina (drummer Mercury). Andrew plays the electric guitar with lots of lotions and uses objects, Michael - drums and percussion. Calm soundscapes give way to nervous free-jazz breaks, the vocabulary of contemporary classical music is combined with improvised passages. "Unusual" methods of musicianship (hairbrush, bow, feather, matches, chain, etc.) coexist with a standard plectrum. Digital audio signal processing devices (reverb, overdrive, echo, loop-station) are used along with a "clean" sound. This music - improvisation - is not "the result of frozen" and the birth process sound images.
"Precarious, barely perceptible texture. Images, vaguely elusive, it is convex visible. Miserly collection of fine tools, each of which opened its own, unique pattern. Laconic restraint, which suddenly - suddenly, unpredictably - explodes the emotional surge to another in an instant turn into a collapse. Some elements - the sound drops, curved prichudivye forms exist, as it were by themselves - and only after hearing the entire album, as it went away a little distance from the canvas, you start to feel a connection between them." - Alexander Kahn

Alvari Lume - Ennen

Alvari Lume

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, Electro Acoustic, Experimental

Label: Audio Gourmet
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:15:38

Alvari Lume is the artist name for guitar experiments from Jaakko Saavolainen, who mostly performs live either solo or with other musicians. He also is responsible for running a successful experimental music club called TMK. 'Ennen' is part one of two EP releases for Audio Gourmet and showcases a selection of three experimental guitar pieces I selected from the artist's Reverb Nation account. All of these tracks are past productions and span the last few years of Alvari Lume's recordings. 'Ennen' means 'then' in Finnish and is an apt title given that the recordings are all selected previous works from his catalog. Fortcoming for the future will be the 'Nyt' EP, meaning 'now' in Finnish; this will feature a selection of pieces that Alvari Lume is working on specifically for the Audio Gourmet netlabel, to show where his music is at currently. Within the three experimental tracks on 'Ennen', your ears are in for a treat. This is crafted entirely from the recorded sound of his live and improvised guitar and the fact that there is no additional electronic manipulation is a testament to his outstanding talent as a performer.
