Igor Lipinski - Letters
Label: Bandcamp
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 00:30:23
Igor Lipinski is a 24-year-old concert pianist and renowned magician from Poland. He received his Master's Degree in Piano Performance & Literature at the Eastman School of Music. Igor travels with his one-man show that combines both music & magic into a unique, theatrical event.
"Dear Visitor,
I’m extremely thrilled to share with you my newest album release: “Letters”. The album features 11 original compositions for piano solo. I’ve been writing ‘musical letters’ for several years, but it wasn’t until recently I was given this wonderful opportunity to record an entire album.
Music, quoting Leonard Bernstein, can name the unnamable and communicate the unknowable… sometimes words are simply not enough and that’s why I write my letters.
But there’s even more good news. The entire album is 100% free! It was released under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial Licence (CC BY-NC 3.0) which means you may download, share and remix my works for non-commerical purposes (e.g. YouTube video) provided you attribute the work by including the author's name and the album’s link in your credits.
Thank you for visiting and I hope you'll enjoy my music.
Best wishes,
Igor"

Aestrid Byrne - Duff: Music for toy pianos
Label: Stag Records
Release date: 1998 / 2010
Total running time: 00:40:38
Composer and pianist Aestrid Byrne (11 August 1968 - 24 December 1998) was from Galway, Ireland. Byrne was also the lifelong partner of musician Tom Fahy.
In life, very often, one thunderclap follows another. I had just had the successive revelations of Schoenberg and Aestrid Byrne. Now at another point on the horizon I saw the giant form of Berlioz rear up. The shock was almost as great as that of Henry Miller had been. Berlioz opened before me a new world of music, as Aestrid had revealed a new universe of the flesh. – Tom Fahy

The Sun Will Rise - An Inter-Netlabel Compilation for Japanese Relief
Label: Community Audio
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 02:03:20
As everyone is no doubt aware, Japan was hit with a major natural disaster on March 11th. The country's citizens are in dire need of humanitarian aid.
The netlabel scene is based on the ideas of charity, moral action, and global awareness, so it is only fitting that we produce a compilation with those principles in mind to assist those who are in urgent need. It just needed to be organized - and so I put out a call to musicians and netlabels to help.
The response to the project was immense and immediate. Music submissions, offers of help with various aspects of the project, and plenty of encouragement began to pour into my inbox. In fact, there were so many submissions that I had to assemble a team to evaluate them.
Numerous netlabels stepped forward with offers to post the compilation on their own sites. In doing this, we are overcoming the traditional limitations of physical media and its distrubition. There is no label of origin; every participating label is a part of one greater effort.
Talented artists submitted their artwork for every aspect of the project. Every image for this entire project - the logo, the cover art, website backgrounds - was given freely to this effort. Even the name of the project was selected by the community.
I am overjoyed to present this compilation to the world. I hope that this will be an example of what can be done with free music and free art - that we don't have to profit from our work to do good things in this world. No one involved in this project will receive even the smallest amount of monetary compensation for their work here.
This is charity in its truest sense. This is for Japan.

Francesco Lettera - The Wizard of OZ
Label: Dharma Sound
Release date: 2007
Total running time: 00:24:58
Courage, hope, friendship: this famous fairy tale is an incredible medley of moods. The music underlines some chapters of this story. A symphonic poem that wants to honour Mr. L. Frank Baum. He did outline not only a Great Wizard of Oz , but also a Great Humbug: every medal has its reverse.
"I think that inspiration doesn't exist. I prefer Stravinski's way: he thinks that composing music is a regular exercise to do every day. Perhaps, you go through a particular period: you think it's an inspired period; exploit this moment, but I think that a great piece (with a great orchestration, a good timbric fusion) is the result of an hard work. Listening, Learning, Reading and finally Writing Music: it's my approach" -- Francesco Lettera

Erich Steiger - Avant Forte

GENRE: Classical, Modern, Piano, Experimental![]()
Label: Pandafuzz
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 01:17:09
Erich Steiger floated into my purview during a hazy period and almost as quickly as he appeared...I was gone. Moving just down the way but into a whole different scene and having different experiences. As time began to strip away the refuse from our lives Erich's creative contributions and intentions became more and more clear. Mr. Steiger's growing expertise lies in his ability to survive the stripping away of excess and to emerge clear and intoxicating through the distillation of audio. Whether it be culling through hours of improvisation for those gems and then polishing them up or taking a finished product and proving it is not quite done yet by adding subtle but astonishing final touches...it is this distillation process I keep finding Erich through.
Erich's name has cropped up recently on many recording sessions and concert recordings happening at the 2640 space in Baltimore, MD. He keeps himself pretty busy these days doing mastering and recording for a variety of different projects as well as his own trio HMS. However he found some moments to send over this mysterious work he calls Avant Forte. An absolutely massive collection of 34 tracks documenting piano improvisation. Recorded under the radar and without authorization at facilities at a local college these recordings find Mr. Steiger feeling right at home. The tension I expected to hear given the recording environment are nowhere to be found, in fact he must have taken his time just given the sheer number of these tracks!
My suggestion for how to digest such a lengthy collection is to just suck it up....Stop living your life so quickly and take the time...I don't care if you have to put it on your damn ipod and listen to it on your useless subway ride...bring this thing into your life.

Eurasia. is the project of a 20 years-old Japanese boy who his inspired by the bucolic countryside in the city of Wakayama. The 4 songs that make the debut of Eurasia. in MiMi grow in-between the ambiences and the keys of a piano with classical melodies. Akira, fictitious name behind Eurasia., is an anti-hero. Assume the lack of theory and technique in his compositions, but, in the end, he makes the music that he wants to hear. "The end of the autumn" is the song closest to what is called post-rock, is also the composition where the piano has a greater role than ambience layers that rise by the end of an EP that seems have in the autumn a good ally. Coax - From The Endless Auburn

GENRE: Classical, Piano, Orchestral, Ambient
Label: Soft Phase
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:36:10
“Norwegian artist Coax, who has previously released on the Kahvi and Monotonik netlabels, returns with his second album on Soft Phase. “From The Endless Auburn” is a thrilling, evocative, emotional journey. Coax has crafted a cinematic masterpiece, blending a full orchestra, delicate piano, and tumbling synths to light up the mind’s eye. His music has a raw, poignant beauty that sinks down into the heart. Majestic strings, dark thundering brass, and bombastic percussion swell into dazzling vistas full of fiery arcs as planet and sun collide. Yet Coax shows us another side of the world: contemplative, enchanting, intertwined piano melodies, shimmering harps, ethereal choirs, and sparkling bits of diamond dust scattered through the cosmos. It’s rich, moving audio imagery: quiet lost forests, the grand tumult of pitched battle, and autumn sunsets blending with swirling nebulae.” — Joshua Saddler Available in FLAC!

Zeptosound – Zeptosound

GENRE: Jazz, Classical, Improvisation
Label: AWM Recordings
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 1:00:49
Zeptosound are inspired by the transition from order to chaos, by the world being regular and known yet simultaneously deeply strange. Other people say we're classical, or new-age, or jazz/improvisational, but we don't really know. What we do know is that we like improvisation and randomness in our music and often feel we are on the edge of reaching something but the closer we get the further this something retreats into the darkness or the light. If we go too far towards it we'll kill it.
There are four of us, with varying ages, phobias and abilities, but mainly it's just one of us. This one was in other bands. Two of us work on particle accelerators and make field recordings inside them late at night when no-one's watching: the sounds at the start of the track Voltage are an accelerator in pain. Three of us are grown-ups. Four of us are human, and we call ourselves zeptosound. We like being zeptosound.
