Rodzmatos – Untimely Music

GENRE: Jazz, Improvisation, Experimental

Label: Pandafuzz
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 00:55:54

There is a physical pace to life, set against the metronome of society’s busier circles, that a person can spend their whole lives trying to keep up with, escaping from, or pushing against. If one were to work against this speed it becomes easy to fall out of sync with things. Feelings of alienation creep in as thunderous marches call out in the city streets and you are left behind a crumpled mess.
There is also an unseen speed, set by consumption patterns and the wonders of modern medicine, that shape the way people live and how their lives play out. It is this physiological level where we make crucial decisions about how we live in this world and how the world lives with us and it is this speed that happens without us even knowing it.
Rodzmatos provides us with hardly a crumpled mess here, rather a finely tuned set of improvisations….for those of us feeling out of sync or those of us wanting to feel out of sync anyway. To me…they feel just right.

Love Cult – Live in Saransk

GENRE: Electronic, Improvisation, Experimental

Label: Panda Fuzz
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 00:31:03

Love Cult is the whole damn package. Comprised of Ivan Afanasyev and Anya Kuts (link), currently based out of the Republic of Karelia, they are involved in a variety of projects ranging from Love Cult and its associated acts and tours to running the fine label Full of Nothing . Beyond that they design and package all of those releases themselves, this release being no different.
Documenting a live show from Saransk with Bedroom Bear, who also makes appearances with this duo from time to time, this recording shows Love Cult in focused form delivering a solid stream of audio from two people locked into each others ideas….we find them chanting their own mantras but allowing us space to enjoy the ride. Mastering and restoration work from fellow pandafuzz artist Erich Steiger

Joxfield ProjeX & Guests - Numbers & Letters

Joxfield ProjeX

GENRE: Rock, Electronic, Progressive, Psychedelic, Experimental, Improvisation, Kraut-RockIt worth a try!

Label: Clinical Archives
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 2:28:26

Has Joxfield ProjeX become a Big Band with all these guests? And is this The White Album of Joxfield ProjeX? The answer is No on both questions. When we were about to start our new recording sessions in 2007 we had decided we wanted to bring our music into territories where we had never been before. To do so we wanted to involve other people and asked around amongst artists we liked and respected and to whom we could direct a mission - contribute to our music in an open-minded and creative way. Most of those we asked generously brought their inspiration to us and went into the project, sometimes for a specific track, sometimes for many of them.
Very quick we realised it was a huge project and when it all was finished we had about 21 hours of music we didn’t want to split up. That’s why it’s a 3 disc set. The variation of the music is the variation of our minds, that’s how we are. For those who care Disc A - Abstract Numbers is maybe a bit introvert, reflective and the Discs B & C - Concrete Letters A-Z might seem extrovert, a little bit more easy-going.
Most of the music is recorded in 2007 with lots of additional recordings, editing and treatments in 2007 - 2010.
Joxfield ProjeX is still the duo Oax and Yan playing their instruments, programming stuff, adding whatever they find reasonable to add, edit and treat.
What about the guests? Most of them do have a long and deep history of success with various bands etc, but instead of fooling both you and them and pretend this music here sounds like anything what they’ve done with those constellations we suggest you check ‘em up by your own.

Zeptosound – Zeptosound

Zeptosound

GENRE: Jazz, Classical, Improvisation

Label: AWM Recordings
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 1:00:49

Zeptosound are inspired by the transition from order to chaos, by the world being regular and known yet simultaneously deeply strange. Other people say we're classical, or new-age, or jazz/improvisational, but we don't really know. What we do know is that we like improvisation and randomness in our music and often feel we are on the edge of reaching something but the closer we get the further this something retreats into the darkness or the light. If we go too far towards it we'll kill it.
There are four of us, with varying ages, phobias and abilities, but mainly it's just one of us. This one was in other bands. Two of us work on particle accelerators and make field recordings inside them late at night when no-one's watching: the sounds at the start of the track Voltage are an accelerator in pain. Three of us are grown-ups. Four of us are human, and we call ourselves zeptosound. We like being zeptosound.

Miro - Miro

Miro

GENRE: Jazz, Free Jazz, Improvisation, Experimental, Electro Acoustic

Label: Clinical Archives
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:45:25

Miro is a joint project of Andrew Popovsky (curator of the St. Petersburg Experimental Sound Gallery) and Michael Kuleshina (drummer Mercury). Andrew plays the electric guitar with lots of lotions and uses objects, Michael - drums and percussion. Calm soundscapes give way to nervous free-jazz breaks, the vocabulary of contemporary classical music is combined with improvised passages. "Unusual" methods of musicianship (hairbrush, bow, feather, matches, chain, etc.) coexist with a standard plectrum. Digital audio signal processing devices (reverb, overdrive, echo, loop-station) are used along with a "clean" sound. This music - improvisation - is not "the result of frozen" and the birth process sound images.
"Precarious, barely perceptible texture. Images, vaguely elusive, it is convex visible. Miserly collection of fine tools, each of which opened its own, unique pattern. Laconic restraint, which suddenly - suddenly, unpredictably - explodes the emotional surge to another in an instant turn into a collapse. Some elements - the sound drops, curved prichudivye forms exist, as it were by themselves - and only after hearing the entire album, as it went away a little distance from the canvas, you start to feel a connection between them." - Alexander Kahn
