She describes the themes of the record as “relationships, the land, the tug and pull, the living in the city and the longing for the country”. Ries describes herself as a shy person who first learned to communicate through song. “Singing was the way I could speak and tell a story,” she says in a recent interview. “It might sound a little bit callous, but if people come up to me after seeing me play and say I made them cry, I feel really happy.”
