Esgi - Echoes In Time

GENRE: Rock, Fusion, Pop Rock, Ambient, Guitar

Label: Bandcamp
Release date: 2008
Total running time: 01:09:34

Essentially a concept album comprising twelve tracks of varying pace and feel. Written over the space of a few months in 2007 initially for a sound track, the project developed into this album. Now re-edited and remastered, 'Echoes In Time' is intended as a chilled out escape and something to drift away to.
From the rhythmic pulse and guitar of 'With No Beginning', the Eastern orchestral chants of 'Dawn Of Mind', the smooth melancholy of 'Alone Again' and the filmic feel of 'Destiny', Echoes In Time seeks to explore the world of fantasy, film and emotion.
'I Wonder' with its Close Encounters influence proves this in point and 'A Paradise Lost', which takes us back to primordial lands after a Great Extinction and its rebirth in 'A New World'.
The title track drifts between here and then, slightly disconnected from the rest of album, while 'Of Wars And Power' explodes with violence and fury.
'The Drifter' captures the relief of surviving absolute terror. (Ripley in the escape pod at the conclusion of seminal classic 'Alien').
'In Your Heart' is a more contemporary, guitar solo based track and 'There Is No End' completes the journey with a strings and breakbeat style affair.
I hope you enjoy the album!
Love,
Esgi.

Label: No Source
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 00:25:15

Guy Honeymoon of Sheffield UK brings us nine songs of life, love, and getting through the day. Guy sticks to the basics with stripped down guy-and-guitar pop songs. This is the voice of a traveler, and a sincere one at that. Amelia, Hollow Hearts and Pocketknife were recorded with Andy Miller (Mogwai, Arab Strap, Scout Niblet) at Chem 19 in Hamilton, Scotland and the rest were recorded with Brian Waller in Cellardoor recording in Rotherham, England.

Beyond Absence

GENRE: Jazz, Acoustic, Ambient, Piano, Guitar

Label: Webbed Hand
Release date: 2008
Total running time: 0:49:22

One of the definitions of complacency is “to be completely satisfied right where you are.” And satisfied you will be, settled back in a comfortable chair, as you take in these mellow compositions which seem to shimmer like snowflakes in the air. This work evokes a slower, more peaceful approach to life.
“This is what we wanted to tell you for now. We are glad to have reached your ears; and perhaps a little of your hearts and minds, if for a second or two only.” – Gustavo and Mauro.

Menion – Out of sound/Out of silence

Menion

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, Chill-Out, GuitarIt worth a try!

Label: La Bel
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:28:12

Menion is a guy called Stefano Ferrari. He plays guitar. Out of sound / Out of silence is a collection of six chilled tunes that combine gentle guitar plucking, washes of electronics and samples with live drums. It’s the sound of sun-kissed beaches and cloudless blue skies. Totally inappropriate for Glasgow, then. On first listen it does tend to wash over pleasantly, but there’s more to it than 21st century easy listening music. Compostella has some glitchy and sharp angles to it, even as it glides into some effortless slide guitar, and there’s more than a hint of menace to the quiet I Love Imperfection. There are passages that do stray a bit too close to muzak, but they are thankfully few. Best track is the first. Coliazone Su Saturno is blissed out and beautiful. Download it and hope for sunshine!

Sekotis - People In Grass Houses

Sekotis

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, Guitar, ShoegazeIt worth a try!

Label: No-Source
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:39:29

Sekotis is British musician Tom Stokes. His album “People In Grass Houses” is full of melodic electronic music juxtaposed with layers of soothing, effect-drenched guitar and bass. Sometimes the guitars are so processed that the line between acoustic and electronics becomes blurred. The organic nature of “People In Grass Houses” is what sets Sekotis' music apart from others. Tracks such as “From A Grain Of Sound The Mountains Grow” and “Those Damn Tree Pixies” focus entirely on guitar, while the rest of the album leans heavily towards electronica. This isn't generic electronic production work, though; Sokotis is quoted as being influenced by Godflesh, Aphex Twin, Hella, and Lightning Bolt. The experimental rock and metal influences bring a great shoegazing quality to this music. The track “Black Sand” shines in this influence by buildsing to a peaceful cascade of sound. At the same time, Tom's work includes some of the best features of electronic music. The whole album is reminiscent of Boom Bip, in particular “Littlefield.” “Abyss Harmony” is very much drenched in Aphex Twin influence, while “Concreate Wilderness”, with pulsing beats, sounds like an Underworld instrumental. “People In Grass Houses” is an ideal headspace album—equal parts shoegazing and ambient dance.

Medelia

GENRE: Folk, Pop, Ambient, Guitar

Label: Trastienda
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:20:17

Medelia is the fusion of Elia Medel and Pablo Maqueda. The mixture of two names and a common way of understanding music. A timeless acoustic sound is distilled from its two voice lines, and creates a singular world halfway between literature and music. Medelia want to make the complicated simple. The project started in 2009 as the logical outlet for musical and literary career of Elia and Paul. Live, the "family" grows, and Paul's acoustic guitar is wrapped over the keys, strings and brushes of the band that could best understand the spirit of Medelia: Pablo Oliva (keyboards), José Luis Luna (bass), Eduardo de la Mata (brush box) and Heidi Buffington (violin). “Light Breaks Where No Sun Shines” is the first EP of the duo Medelia (Pablo Medel y Elia Maqueda), from Madrid (Spain). Five tracks moving between folk and pop, produced by José Luis Luna in Habitación 126 and Ritmo y Compás studios.
