Gardens From Light – The Axis Of The Skies
Label: Resting Bell
Release date: 2012
Total running time: 00:77:00
"The Axis Of The Skies" is a huge 77-minute piece, loosely inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft story Polaris. It is designed to evoke a feeling of drifting in and out of a dream world, whilst simultaneously floating through space towards a dying star. It is divided into 5 pieces but is best enjoyed as a single long-form piece. If you take a listen, you’ll drift into a massive world of sound. Sparkling melodies; dark, droning environments and GFL's trademark use of field recordings are all there, changing around and guiding you through this journey. The climax of the piece is the fourth section, "Gravity Assist", with its slowly-evolving, harshly distorted parts changing to a very subtle and quiet passage leading into the final part of the work.

Kendall Station - Mend
Label: Test Tube
Release date: 2011
Total running time: 00:24:37
«Hailing from the USA is Michael Simpkins with his Kendall Station ambient project. Not much is known about this except for an excellent previous release on Endless Ascent 'Nebulae and Gridlock' and that maybe Michael grabbed the name from a well known train station at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
Anyway, 'Mend' was a bit of long time waiting in line for the release schedule, but finally it came around and oh what a nice little EP it is! The first three tracks are pure light (as opposed to dark) ambient, something that Kendall Station works quite well. Fourth and last track 'Barge' is a short piece reminiscent of the calmest and most instrospective moments scottish act Boards of Canada had to offer in their days. Works a bit like an outroduction and works quite well in it. Perfect release for the spring days to come. Be sure to listen to this with you eyes closed or while contemplating a nature scene.» - test tube
Lokua - Water Rock
Label: Soft Phase
Release date: 2009
Total running time: 00:39:45
We’ll make a departure from our familiar nordic landscape, across the Atlantic, in order to welcome our new guest artist Lokua, all the way from Chicago, US. With the album “Trails“, released last year on the Moment Sound netlabel, Lokua displayed the versatility of his musical styles and fresh ideas. “Water Rock” is more focused on the deeper ambient tones and textures, here’s how the artist himself describes it:
“In comparison, Trails was like Summer, Water Rock is like Winter. The first is a little more outwardly pleasing, one can enjoy it without effort. I think to appreciate more ambient and experimental music one needs a certain level of imagination. It takes some concentration to fully appreciate the entirety of winter. What makes the cold unpleasant? How can I enjoy it? These are the sort of questions I was asking myself when composing the selections on Water Rock, only more music-techy like, how can these harsh unavoidable audio clips be made pleasing? Or maybe it’s just that Water-Rock was made in the winter, a time of introspection and isolation. In other words Trails was more-so geared towards head-nod-factor, whereas Water Rock was made by a fire while my toes defrosted.”

Ben Woods - We Are Silhouettes Now

GENRE: Electronic, Ambient, Shoegaze, Soundscape![]()
Label: Lost Children
Release date: 2010
Total running time: 0:27:44
Lost Children Net Label proudly presents Ben Woods‘ We Are Silhouettes Now. A wholesome offering of layered sky-gazing soundscapes, piano driven introspection and subliminal bliss. It is an addictive seven track EP that will entice its listeners with its elegant structures and variations, reminiscent of those found in the cinematic compositions of Angelo Badalamenti. The music subtly finds its way under the listeners skin, stopping time, bringing a moment of peace draped in shades of melancholic yet uplifting blue as reflected so dexterously in the artwork by Ludo Vanroy. In a way it can be seen as the extension and pinnacle of These Passing Thoughts, a collection of ‘endless hours of wasted moments’, which will offer the additional fix the listener will crave for after listening to We Are Silhouettes Now.
